Storms in NYC = Flight Cancellation in Norfolk

Trip to Paris France

Day 1:

The day has FINALLY arrived!  We are ready to fly to France!

Everything is looking good.  We arrive to the airport with plenty of time to get through security, find our gate and get the kids settled in while we wait for the flight to board.

Things are still right on track as we all board the plane and take our seats.  The doors close and the captain comes on telling us we will be taking off in 10 minutes.  The excitement builds as we are about to start the first leg of our journey.  Off to New York then a connecting flight into Paris.

“Ladies and gentlemen, there are storms in New York.  The flight has been cancelled.  Please exit the plane.”

WHAT?!  10 minutes ago we are about to take off!

We exit the plane and make our way back up the stairs (we were on a little commuter plane that didn’t have a gangway).  We’re handed a card with an 800 number and told to reschedule our flight.  The line at the counter is already super long, so I get on my cell phone to call the airline while Derrick gets on his phone to call his parents.  They had dropped us off at the airport and were just sitting down in a restaurant to eat dinner.

We’re both on our phones while the children thankfully sit on the luggage and talk quietly.

Going to France may just be a dream for some, but finding a cheap flight to France can easily make that dream come true. As far as other costs, you have to pay to live somewhere during that time and it may as well be France. Watch your budget when it comes to entertainment and food. Other than that, your only added expense will be the bills you already pay at home, a hotel, and your transportation to and from France.

How to Get a Cheap Flight to France:

Last Minute Deals

Last minute deals are always a great way to save money as long as you can be prepared to leave for France on very short notice. Airlines don’t like to have empty seats because they have to pay the expense of the flight whether the seats are full or not. Obviously they make more money if the seats are full. By selling you last minute tickets for a low rate that can at least recover some of their money. The downside is that you may not get the seat you want. You might also have to travel in a section that you don’t want to, like economy class instead of first class.

Where to Go for Adult Summer Getaways

Adult Summer Getaways
{Pin It}

Sometimes you just need a break from the children. Adult summer getaways let you enjoy your vacation without children whether they are your own or not. There are plenty of resorts and spas that understand your needs to be alone. Now you just need to learn how to find those places and what to expect when you get there. Here are some tips to make sure you end up with exactly what you are wanting in an adult summer getaway:

Define Children

You really have to set your parameters here. Many resorts advertise that they are adult only resorts, but actually allow children. You won’t have to deal with crying babies or toddlers running rampant. On the other hand, you may be subject to the fast talking teen chatter and constant texting that teens do. Some adult only resorts consider children 13 and older to be adult enough to attend the resorts. Even if you like teenagers, you may not want to be around them while trying to enjoy your adult time.

Be sure to find out the exact age requirements before you sign up to go to a spa or resort that may not be what you think it is.

Food costs can be one of the largest expenses you have when you travel. Creating a travel food budget can save you money as well as time when you travel. If you happen to be traveling with children, it’s even more important to have a budget for this purpose. Having a food budget while on vacation will also ensure you get to enjoy the things that truly matter to your individual family unit.

Travel Food Budget Tips and Tricks:

Pack Your Own Food

Pack your own food whenever you can. If you have children, let them help pack the cooler or pick the snacks. They may be excited by the idea of eating at restaurants on the road. You will have a much more relaxing trip if you can get them excited about what is in the cooler. You might even put them in charge of giving out what is in the cooler, so that they feel important when you want something to eat or drink. The money you save will make it easier to afford it when you do want to enjoy a nice restaurant or night out.
