What We Ate At Moon Palace Resorts Cancun {& Why You Will Want to Eat There Too}

When people talk about all-inclusive resorts,  food is always on top of the list.  We love to eat and a good meal, especially one that is included with your stay,  is a priority when planning a vacation.

We had plenty of food to choose from staying at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort.  A variety of cuisine is available – from hotdogs to fish to steak. You can eat Asian, Mexican, seafood or lounge poolside.  Whether you’re traveling with a picky eater or a foodie, there is no shortage of restaurant options.

When planning our trip to a new area,  one of the first items on our list is to determine where we should eat.  I want to know other travelers experiences with a  restaurant before I go.  Granted, I’ve been spoiled and dined at some fabulous restaurants, so I am a bit finicky when it comes to food.  However, knowing what others think of a restaurant is a good indicator of the food quality, ambiance and wait staff.

Some of the restaurants at Moon Palace are definitely better than others. We preferred La Trattoria at the Golf Villas, Caribeno in Moon Grand and the Brazilian Steakhouse in Nizuc.

Moon Palace Food La Trattoria

Our favorite meal was at La Trattoria on the last evening of our trip.  A card with our last name was waiting on our table which gave a special touch to the evening.  We were offered a cheese cart, delicious bread that was still warm from the oven, a dessert cart to die for, a palate cleansing treat between courses and fabulous wine.  Everything about the meal was exceptional.  Every time I thought the meal couldn’t get any better – they arrived with another course.

Moon Palace Food Caribeno

Our next favorite meal was at Caribeno.  The food was excellent – it turned out to be the first really good meal we had since our arrival.  I even requested a couple more of the little appetizer tacos 🙂  While the soup in the picture didn’t photograph well, it was delicious and full of seafood.

Moon Palace Mayan Coffee

Watching the Mayan coffee being made in front of us was a nice show at the end of the meal – even though I was only able to drink a sip.  If you’re a fan of sugary coffee liquor then this is the drink for you!  You can watch our video of the coffee being made below – my kids even think it’s cool to watch!

Moon Palace Food Brazilian Steakhouse

The Brazilian Steakhouse came highly recommended and it is definitely a treat.  I’ve always heard about the Brazilian Steakhouse’s where they walk around with the large skewers of meat.  It is a fun experience and you get to try a variety of meats including different cuts of beef, pork and chicken.  When you are finished and can’t possibly eat any more, just turn the little disk to “no, gracias” and they will stop coming by to offer more food.  Well, until dessert…

Moon Palace Food Momo

Momo in Sunrise was just okay even though it was also recommended by other guests and the staff.  Some of the food was good and some was so-so.  It was a bit disappointing when I walked in thinking it would be my favorite meal of the trip.

Moon Palace Resort Buffet

Breakfast and lunch were fine. They were both buffet style with a fairly large selection.  We ate breakfast and lunch in Sunrise each day since that is the resort were staying.  You can find dishes specific to a number of Countries as well as have pancakes, omelets and burgers made to order.

I think the best breakfast we had was from room service.  The food tasted better and there is something to be said for eating in your jammies on the balcony.

Alcohol is plentiful at the resort, not surprisingly.  I can’t really speak for the liquor except that some of the restaurants did have different varieties & didn’t carry all the top shelf liquors.  Derrick wanted Grey Goose vodka for instance, but they only had Absolute.

I also found it a little strange that I could only get Pinot Grigio for free at select restaurants and was even unable to have it delivered through room service – just few select whites and reds.

I do have to warn you to pay attention to how many times the staff refills your wine glass. They are very efficient 😉

If you like Dos Equis you are in luck, but some other popular beers – even Corona aren’t available.  You couldn’t even get Heineken at the bars, just through room service.

Now, I’m just giving my opinion on the food.  The atmosphere in all the restaurants is beautiful and the staff are top-notch.  Our glasses were always kept full, plates cleared instantly and friendliness was never an issue.

Overall the food at Moon Palace Resorts was good.  Unfortunately, I can’t go as far as to give it an overall great.  If you’re looking for a culinary treat, head to the Golf Villas restaurant.  Proper attire and reservations are required, but it is definitely worth the experience!
