Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas is advertised as “the world’s biggest weekend” and the ship definitely lives up to the hype!! As the newest Oasis Class ship, it’s packed with dining, entertainment, and activities for travelers of all ages. Whether you’re sailing as a family, couple or group of friends, this ship is the perfect choice for a short, fun filled Bahamas getaway.
Currently, Utopia of the Seas sails 3 and 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral, Florida, visiting Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay. We sailed on the 4-night itinerary, which included two port days and one sea day in an oceanview balcony cabin. If it’s in your budget, I highly recommend doing a back-to-back cruise – there’s just so much to explore on this ship that four nights barely scratches the surface.
About Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas:
Utopia of the Seas brings fresh design touches and artistic details that make it feel more glamorous and high-end than any previous Oasis Class ship. You’ll find the classic favorites like Central Park, the Boardwalk, and the Royal Promenade, but also exciting new venues such as Pesky Parrot, a tropical cocktail bar and Royal Railway, an immersive dining experience unlike anything at sea.
This review focuses on our personal experience aboard the 4-night sailing – for ship-specific information, itineraries and more new features, check out my separate Utopia of the Seas Tips & What’s New Guide.
Utopia of the Seas Day #1 – Embarkation & First Impressions
We boarded Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas around 1 p.m. after a brief delay caused by an electrical outage at the port. Even with the power issues, check-in took only about 45 minutes and staff did a fantastic job keeping things organized once power was restored.
Tip: Join the Facebook group for your sailing. Fellow passengers were posting live updates about the outage, which helped us time our arrival perfectly and avoid long lines.

After boarding, we headed straight to Solarium Bistro for a lobster and stone crab lunch — a special perk available only on embarkation day. There was also a similar seafood spread in Windjammer featuring fresh lobster, crab, and shrimp. Icon of the Seas offered the same perk during its first year, but it’s unclear how long it will continue on Utopia. She’s already been sailing over a year and seafood is still an embarkation day special.
If seafood isn’t your thing, Park Café offers great salads and sandwiches in a quieter setting or you can grab a table at a specialty restaurant to skip the embarkation crowds.

Afternoon Fun & Sail Away Party
After lunch, we explored the ship and took on The Ultimate Abyss, which has reclaimed its title as the tallest slide at sea. It’s an absolute must for both kids and adventurous adults!
Next, we headed to the Sail Away Party. What a celebration! Utopia definitely leans into its “party ship” reputation, but don’t worry – there are still plenty of quiet areas for those who prefer relaxation. The party featured music, dancing, and even “champagnators” (staff pouring champagne into guests’ mouths) lively but still family-friendly if you’re just watching from above. We like to people watch, so stood on deck 16 overlooking the shenanigans happening at the pool deck below.

Dinner that night was in the Main Dining Room, where the food exceeded expectations. Highlights included escargot, steak, and cheesecake. I especially loved the nightly Indian dish which is a rare but welcome find on Royal Caribbean ships. Service was outstanding, and everything tasted fresh and well-prepared.
We ended the night with two incredible shows: YOUTOPIA (the ice skating show) and ALL IN! (the main stage production). Both were fantastic but my kids especially loved YOUTOPIA after seeing behind-the-scenes clips on TikTok.
We wrapped up the night with Aqua Dunes Mini Golf which looked beautiful all lit up, though it was a bit crowded with kids running around. I’d recommend playing on a port day when it’s quieter.

Utopia of the Seas Oceanview Balcony Cabin Review (Stateroom 7150)

We stayed in Stateroom 7150, an Oceanview Balcony. Normally we book two connecting cabins now that the kids are older but due to high prices and limited availability, we shared one room for this short sailing.
Despite the tight space for four people, we were pleasantly surprised by the smart storage and thoughtful layout. There were plenty of outlets, USB ports (we didn’t even need my extra adaptor), and a trundle-style sofa bed so the kids didn’t have to share. The bathroom was larger than expected with strong water pressure and good storage.
Packing Tip: Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. The standard dispenser is a combo product and not great for my long hair.Cruise Hack: Magnetic hooks are a lifesaver for hanging wet swimsuits and hats.
Overall, the stateroom worked fine for four nights, but for longer cruises, I’d definitely book two rooms or upgrade to a suite.
Utopia of the Seas Day #2: Nassau, Bahamas
Our first port of call was Nassau, and disembarkation was fast and organized – impressive for a ship carrying over 5,000 guests!

We decided to explore on our own rather than booking an excursion. We wandered through the Straw Market, shopped around the renovated Prince George Wharf, and grabbed drinks at Señor Frogs before heading back. Nassau’s $300 million port renovation now accommodates up to six ships, including multiple Oasis and Icon Class vessels. The new Junkanoo Museum is worth a stop to explore the story and evolution of the national Junkanoo cultural festival.
Nassau Cruise Port Ideas (No Excursion Needed)
- Junkanoo Beach – Public beach approximately a 10 minute walk from the port exit. Loungers and umbrellas are available to rent.
- Cable Beach – Public beach approximately a 15 minute taxi ride from the port. Loungers and umbrellas are available to rent.
- Baha Mar – Resort available for day passes. Make sure to book in advance
- Atlantis – Resort available for day passes. Make sure to book in advance

We returned to the ship for a relaxed afternoon by the pool. Port days are perfect for lounging around and exploring the ship. The pools were quiet and we easily found chairs. K tried a few items from the new pool side food truck, but wasn’t impressed. Lucy and I went down a couple of the slides at The Perfect Storm. Lines were also much shorter than on sea days.
Dinner that night was again in the Main Dining Room, with standout dishes like French onion soup, chicken korma, and blueberry cobbler.

Lucy and I caught the Aqua 80 show at the AquaTheater. It’s a spectacular 80’s-themed performance that’s not to be missed.
Day #3 – Sea Day Aboard Utopia of the Seas

Sea days are for exploring and we started ours at Pesky Parrot, a fun new bar that replaced the Bionic Bar. Definitely look for Brian the parrot – his “dad jokes” are hilarious!
Having the drink package was great – it let us try new cocktails without worrying about cost. Pesky Parrot had a great cocktail menu, but I can be picky.

Hooked Seafood Lunch
We had lunch at Hooked Seafood, one of Utopia’s best specialty restaurants. The cheddar biscuits are a must-try! We enjoyed jumbo shrimp, oysters, chowder, and filet with lobster. The lobster roll was just okay, we probably wouldn’t order it again.
Tip: Go for lunch instead of dinner to enjoy similar dishes at a lower price.

Later that day, Lucy and I joined Wizarding World Trivia in Spotlight Karaoke. It was fun even if we only got 19/40 questions right!
Tip: Arrive early as the venue gets crowded. We arrived 15 minutes early and snagged the remaining 2 standing spots at the bar. After that it was standing room around the perimeter only.

Royal Railway Dining Experience
Our evening highlight was the Royal Railway an immersive five-course dinner themed around a Wild West train journey. The pimento dip and short ribs were excellent, but overall it’s more about the experience than the food. It’s pricey ($119.99 per adult now), so I’d recommend it only if you’re looking for something unique. In all honestly, Derrick and K said they didn’t think it was worth the money. I’m glad we experienced Royal Railway and recommend it if it’s in your budget and you can snag reservations.
We were only able to get tickets for the 8pm seating, so we weren’t able to see any of the shows that night.
Utopia of the Seas Day #4: Perfect Day at CocoCay

Our last port was Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas. From the pier, you get an incredible view of Utopia’s massive size compared to other ships — she’s the second-largest cruise ship in the world!
We spent our day at Chill Island, relaxing and snorkeling. The best part? We didn’t spend a single dollar. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and food are all included. Wi-Fi works if you have the ship’s internet package & the beverage package carries over as well.

Free Things to Do at CocoCay
- Oasis Lagoon: The largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean
- Splashaway Bay & Captain Jill’s Galleon: Great for kids
- Snack Shacks, Skipper Grill & Chill Grill: Included food options

We headed back early to enjoy a last drink at Lime & Coconut and a little casino fun – and won $97 on the quarter slots! Dinner was again fantastic. The Mediterranean tapas medley, seared asparagus, braised lamb and creme Catalina were some of our favorites. We ended the cruise with the adults-only comedy show (funny, though slightly awkward with my “kids” in the room).
After the show it was time to get our bags packed for an early morning departure.
Packing tip: Don’t forget to bring an extra bag to carry pjs, toiletries and medications if you’re putting your suitcases out the night before.
Utopia of the Seas Day #5: Disembarking & Cocoa Beach
This cruise went by way too fast! We had breakfast in the main dining room before carrying our luggage off the ship around 8:30am. Disembarkment was super easy and efficient.
We had an evening flight, so decided to spend time at Cocoa Beach. We hit the beach, relaxed by the pool and had a quick lunch before grabbing a Uber to the airport. We rented a day room through ResortPass in Cocoa Beach. This was a great option for us as we only paid $20 more for the day hotel room than just resort passes for 4 people. We were able to shower before our flight after spending the afternoon on the beach.

What to Do Near Port Canaveral:
- ResortPass – A ton of locations offering day passes, day rooms, cabanas, spa passes and more.
- Visit Kennedy Space Center – A great experience for adults and kids.
- Rent a car – There are a few car rental companies with free shuttle transport from the port. Use the car to store your luggage, explore for the day then drop it off at the airport.
What We Loved about Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas:
- Great food and attentive dining service
- Variety of entertainment and shows
- Beautiful new design and decor
- Easy disembarkation
- CocoCay included on every itinerary
What Could Be Better:
The biggest negative of Utopia of the Seas was the temperature onboard. It was hot all over the ship including our stateroom. I’m usually cold while cruising unless I’m near Central Park or the Boardwalk, but I only needed my sweater watching the shows. We even had difficulty keeping our stateroom cool despite a call to maintenance. This has been a common complaint from many cruisers, so I hope they get the temperature controls fixed as they work out the kinks on the new ship. We bring this fan while cruising and highly recommend it to move air in the stateroom.
Is Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas Worth It?
Absolutely! Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas is perfect for families, couples, and groups wanting a short but unforgettable Bahamas cruise. Between the vibrant nightlife, relaxing pool spaces, and world-class dining, it’s easy to see why it’s called “the world’s biggest weekend.” I would have loved another night or two to explore more of the ship and take advantage of all the activities on board, but overall we’ve had a fantastic cruise and highly recommend the new ship.
If you’re planning a Royal Caribbean vacation, Utopia of the Seas should be at the top of your list.
