Guillero Restaurant Review

Restaurant Guillermo in Sant Antoni de Calonge

We are now on day 3 of our Costa Brava tour.  After a bike ride and wine sampling at a local vineyard, we headed to lunch at Restaurant Guillermo.

Guillermo is located right along the promenade overlooking the water in Sant Antoni de Calonge.   We were able to gaze out the window at the beautiful sea vista, and watch Lucy play and take photographs when she needed a break from the table.

Restaurant Guillermo has been a family run restaurant for over 25 years.  You can sense how much the family enjoys running the restaurant just by watching the interaction with guests.  The daughter breezed in while we were finishing up lunch, stopping by tables and chatting excitedly with patrons.

Lunch started with another round of fantastic appetizers.  By this point, I was probably up about 3lbs. I’m an optimist!

Sonsos at Restaurant Guillero

Coquinas at Restaurant Guillero

We had two types of calamari, both cooked to perfection.  My favorite dish was the little clams called coquinas.  YUM!  I even surprised my husband my munching on the little fried fish, sonsos.   Prawns and a green salad rounded out our first course.

Duck at Restaurant Guillero

Fish fillet at Restaurant Guillero

Some of our table mates chose not to not indulge in an entree.  But why stop the fun?  I had a tasty fish fillet and Derrick tried the duck and apple au confit.  He thought it was delicious, while I wasn’t a big fan of the texture.  Not that it mattered, it was his lunch – not mine 🙂

Tiramisu at Restaurant Guillero

Flan at Restaurant Guillero

Time for dessert. I had tiramisu – I bet you thought it was going to be crema catalana didn’t you?  Derrick had flan with orange sauce.

We drank another local white wine that I forgot to record, but I think it’s pretty to safe to say that you can’t go wrong with a Catalan wine!

Did you know?
Catalunya is an important cork production region. The corks used in the local wine and cava are produced in the region. Spain produces approximately 30% of the world’s cork.

Kids having ice cream at the beach in front of Restaurant Guillero

The kids?  Croquettes again.

Surprised?  You shouldn’t be.  They are just like me when they find something they like. They order it over and over again.  The kids ended their meal with ice cream on the beach.

I'll try a Sonsos if you do!
I’ll try a Sonsos if you do!

You can see the boys were a little reluctant to try the sonsos.  It became a game of “I’ll try it if you do.”  As it turns out, K thought they were pretty good and ate more than just his one.

Great food, perfectly presented… If it tasted even half as good as it looked, I am jealous!

That looks like a great meal. I love trying a bunch of new things, so the appetizers were a great way to go. The calamari looks yummy.
