Family-Friendly Adventures for Your Kids’ Weekend

A weekend away with the kids can be a real treat. It is a great way to bond with the family, a nice escape from the daily grind, and something that can be done on a shoestring. And best of all, for a weekend getaway you don’t have to do too much planning or packing!

Wherever you are in the country, there are plenty of activities that will keep the kids entertained. Here are some fun and family-friendly adventures for your next vacation escapade with your children.

Visit a local farm
Farms are a great place to take the kids for a day out. There’s nothing kids love more than playing with cute animals, and most farms include a petting zoo, where your little ones can get right up close to the fluffiest examples on the farm! There are usually plenty of animals to see, and the kids can learn all about where their food comes from, which is a nice educational addition to a fun day out. Many farms also have playgrounds, hay rides, and other activities, so the kids can burn off some energy.

Go for a nature walk
Nature walks are a great way to get some fresh air and explore the outdoors. It is a chance for the kids to run around and let off some steam, and you can teach them all about the plants and animals that you see along the way. A nature walk can be anything from a stroll through a few local meadows to a full-scale, day-long hike in a National Park or up your nearest mountain! Wherever your choose to go, getting outside and exploring the great outdoors with your kids will be a truly rewarding day of fun and excitement.

Go camping
Camping is a great way to spend some quality time with the family. It is a chance to unplug from technology and connect with nature. It is also a great opportunity for the kids to learn some new skills, such as pitching a tent or building a campfire. A night spent under canvas, watching shooting stars and telling ghost stories, is one of the most back-to-basic experiences you can have as a family and one that they’ll remember forever. Just don’t forget to pack torches, firelighters, and plenty of warm and waterproof clothes, just in case!

Go to the beach
The beach is always a great place to take the kids, whether it is for a day trip or a longer vacation. They can paddle in the waves, build sandcastles, and look for shells. There are brilliant beaches all over the US, from Florida to California, and you can even find exciting beach days out in some of the largest and most urban cities! If you don’t live near a beach then a weekend away for some sun, sand, and surf, is never a bad idea, and can be done surprisingly cheaply if you plan a little in advance.

Visit a theme park
Theme parks are a great option for a weekend away with the kids. They can experience the thrills of the rides, meet their favorite characters, and have a lot of fun. The theme parks of Orlando, Florida, are obviously the most famous, but there are great and exciting options scattered all over the place. California boasts its own Disneyland Park, as well as Legoland and Universal Studios, while there are Six Flags all over the country, and more interesting and alternative options like Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, and Nickelodeon Universe to discover as well!
