Dinner at a campground?  Say it ain’t so.  No, it’s not like the US.  We weren’t served BBQ chicken, hot dogs or hamburgers.  The food was amazing and didn’t include even one squirt of ketchup.

Camping Les Medes is a family run campground.  We dined with the son while his mother prepared and served our meal.   We didn’t get to explore the grounds, BUT they had a giant chess board outside that the kids thought was awesome!

To start, several bottles of red and white wine were placed on the table along with cold cauliflower soup, fried calamari rings, mussels, prawns, cheese, anchovies and Catalan tomato bread.  We’ve even starting making the tomato bread at home.

Did you know?
Catalan tomato bread is bread (usually toasted baguette style) rubbed with fresh garlic and a ripe tomato then drizzled with olive oil.

Our entree was a nice fish fillet served over potatoes with carrots and asparagus.  For dessert we had crema catalana and little donut-like pieces topped with powdered sugar.

The kids had burgers (okay we DID have burgers) and ice cream cones for dessert.  They also munched on some of the appetizers to start off their meal.

One of the other TBEX attendees in our group was celebrating her birthday.  After all the wonderful food, drinks and desserts were brought to the table , a large cake was presented to the birthday girl.  I was so stuffed that I couldn’t bring myself to try the cake, but the kids thought it was great.

If you enjoy camping or bungalow’s, Les Medes is a nice place to stay while in Estartit.  They are open year round and have breathtaking mountain views, and countless amenities including pools, laundromat, kid activities and a playground.

As if the ice cream in his hand isn't enough, he has cake in front of him and is reaching for another donut piece.

You can see that K enjoyed his meal.  He has ice cream on his face, a cone in one hand, a piece of cake in front of him, and is reaching for another donut piece. That’s my boy!

Unfortunately, it was dark in the restaurant so my pictures didn’t turn out well.  The lighting was perfect for a quiet evening just not great for photography. The images here don’t do the food justice, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Don’t forget to share your experience at Camping Les Medes with us.  Have you eaten at the restaurant or stayed in the campground?  If you’re looking for other ideas, browse the Estartit tourism website.

My family was invited as guests to experience the food, atmosphere and family-friendliness of the restaurant.  All opinions are 100% my own and may differ from others.
