Aradi Restaurant Review

Restaurant Aradi – in Platja d’Aro

The second stop on our mission to experience Costa Brava through our taste buds was Restaurant Aradi for dinner.

Restaurant Aradi is located in the heart of Platja d’Aro. The restaurant has an elegant feel without being stuffy. You can dine inside or people watch on the outdoor patio.

Aradi offers many dining choices. You can order a variety of seasonal dishes, select from a fixed “Fruits of the Sea” menu that looks absolutely divine,  order off a menu of the day, the Fave menu, a special cuisine Jornades or  a standard menu.

croquettes at Aradi

K started off with his new favorite food, croquettes. They are little balls of potatoes, chopped vegetables, meat or fish that are covered with breadcrumbs and fried to perfection. Each restaurant makes them differently, adding their own spin on these little bites of goodness.

Leave us alone Mom. We’re eating.

The staff at Aradi was considerate of Lucy’s temperamental tastes. She ordered fish (usually her favorite) but didn’t like it. Go figure! The fish was excellent. I think she was just overtired and not in the mood for seafood like she thought. They quickly brought her out a bowl of spaghetti bolognese which she promptly devoured.

artichoke salad at Aradi

The adults all choose from the Menu of the Day. Derrick & I both started off with the ensalada de colores con alcachofas a la vinagreta de crudités, artichoke salad. The salad was completely different from any salad I had tried before and was incredibly tasty!

Clean Paella at Aradi

Paella at Aradi

Derrick’s main course was pierna de cordero a la brasa con guarnicion, grilled leg of lamb, and I shared paella de arróz parellada, “clean” paella, with another Mom from our group. The paella was delicious and not having to peel the shrimp or remove the mussels from shells was an added bonus.

Did you know?
Paella is usually served for 2 people?  You can find restaurants that make a single serving, but it’s usually a dish to be enjoyed together.

Aradi crema Catalana

Wine at Aradi

Dessert was  crema catalana – similar to a Creme Brulee. It’s one of my favorite desserts from Catalunya. We also had a refreshing glass of local white wine, Peredala Blanc de Blancs 2014. Okay, maybe more than one glass…

The entire family enjoyed our first dinner on the TBEX family tour.  Everyone was exhausted after a day of exploring, so it was nice to finish off the evening with a great meal in a relaxing atmosphere. If you need more ideas on where to eat, check out the Platja d’Aro tourism board.

Nothin’ like a good artichoke salad and paella! It’s always good to have good sit down options in Spain that stand out! I ate almost nothing but tapas when I was there.

We ate a lot of tapas too. Especially in Barcelona. Give some of these options a try next time you’re in Spain. You won’t be sorry.

Lunch time is the WORST time to read this post. Everything looks delicious, and it’s great that they were so accommodating with your daughter 🙂

The salad certainly looks good… and different! Luckily I’ve just had some rice for dinner, otherwise I might be craving for some paella now.

DISCLAIMER: I am a picky eater! I would never consider eating pasta at a restaurant unless in Italy, or at an Italian restaurant where I know the chef and the cook is Italian. I never trust it! Having said so. I like paella 🙂

Paella is wonderful isn’t it…2 is the absolute minimum in my experience.

The best croquettes are not made with potatoes but with a very thick bechemal type of sauce that is ‘filled’ with cheese, meat or fish and allowed to set before being cut/rolled into shape, crumbed and fried.

Interesting. I’m still learning about croquettes. Maybe that’s why while my son liked them all, some were better than others?

That artichoke salad looks really good! I really shouldn’t read blogs when I should be cooking dinner – makes me way too hungry.
